About the Reborn Artist

Welcome to the world of beautiful baby dolls! My name is Jan Fletcher and I am the sole artist behind Adorababes Hand Crafted Reborn Baby Dolls. Learning to become a reborn artist for me started in March 2003 as a hobby but has now become over the years a major part of my life. I have made some wonderful friends from other reborn artists and customers who have purchased these wonderful dolls or attended the classes.

Back in 2003 "reborning" was the term used to purchase a complete doll usually Ashton Drake or Berenguer, dismantling and removing the factory paint then starting the reborn process. Since the Channel 4 Documentary "My Fake Baby" in 2008 reborn dolls became extremely popular with individuals bidding thousands of pounds for these highly collectible dolls. This popularity then encouraged sculptors and manufactures to produce artist doll kits consisting of head and limbs (no factory paint) which is now termed newborning. Although most artists now use doll kits the term "reborning" is well known and as such still used.

I have learned to paint realistic veins, broken capillaries, newborn skin markings, milk spots and even stork bites on the vinyl pieces. I give the babies fingernail and toenail manicures that a real baby would have. I then take micro rooting needles to individually root baby-soft mohair into the scalp, one hair at a time in the direction that it would grow naturally. As you can imagine this process is painstakingly labour intensive but the effect is so ultra real it is breathtaking.

The joy this art form has given me is unexplainable. With each baby I have really created a unique one of a kind piece of art, a collectible that can be passed down from generation to generation. It gives me a feeling of pride, accomplishment, excitement, and uniqueness. My dolls have been purchased from all over the world and three of my dolls are now residing in dolls museums.
